In this video we explain in less than 3 minutes how to manufacture full spectrum cannabis oil via supercritical CO2 extraction. The video features equipment from Apeks Supercritical CO2 under the Prospiant brand. Prospiant also supports chilled ethanol extraction equipment from Delta Separations. Supercritical CO2 allows for the extraction of a terpene fraction, a subcritical fraction as well as a supercritical fraction. The terpenes are often put aside and stored for later formulation into the final product. The subcritical and supercritical fraction taken from the supercritical extractor will typically undergo a process of winterization where ethanol is introduced to the extracted fraction in a range of 5:1 to 10:1 subject to SOP. This is then frozen for 24-72hrs at very cold temperatures -40 to -80 degrees Celsius. Under these conditions the waxes and lipids in solution will precipitate and typically float on the surface of the frozen fraction. This is then filtered out of solution by buchner filtration vacuum manifold setups before being taken to a rotary evaporator for ethanol reclaim and oil clean-up. From this stage in the process the oil can undergo further fractional distillation via SPD (short path distillation) or WFD (wiped film distillation).
