Stick drift is a very common issue with controllers, and it can be incredibly frustrating. It happens when the joystick sends a signal even when it's in a neutral position, causing your in-game character or camera to move on its own. While it's a hardware problem, Steam has excellent built-in software tools to fix it by adjusting the "dead zone." This is the best method to try before considering a physical repair or buying a new controller. A "dead zone" is a small area around the center of the joystick where any movement is ignored. By making this area larger, you can effectively hide the small, unintentional movements that cause stick drift. Here's how to adjust the dead zone settings in Steam using the most effective method: Step 1: Access Steam's Controller Settings The easiest way to get to the correct menu is by using Steam's Big Picture Mode. Open Steam. Click the Big Picture Mode icon in the top-right corner of the client (it looks like a rectangle with two arrows pointing out). Once in Big Picture Mode, navigate to Settings (the gear icon). Select Controller from the menu. Then, choose Controller Settings. Step 2: Calibrate and Adjust the Dead Zone In the Controller Settings menu, you'll see a list of your connected controllers. Select the controller that is experiencing stick drift. Choose the Calibration & Advanced Settings option. You will now see a visual representation of your joystick's input. When the stick is at rest, you will likely see a small, erratic movement on the graph—this is the stick drift. Find the slider for the dead zone (for either the left or right joystick, depending on which one is drifting). Slowly increase the dead zone value by moving the slider. As you increase it, you'll see the central, no-input area expand. Continue to increase the dead zone until the erratic movement of the stick drift is completely contained within that area. ...
