By Angela Hanunka Education Minister DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA has commended Mulungushi University for investing more than 66 million Kwacha in the construction of student hostels at its Livingstone campus. Mr. SYAKALIMA says the investment will greatly improve student welfare and enhance the learning environment for those pursuing programmes in medicine and health sciences. He was speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for a modern multi-storey student hostel at the Mulungushi University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Livingstone campus. At the same event, Acting Health Minister CORNELIUS MWEETWA said the institution has laid the groundwork for a brighter future for medical students, whom he described as front-line personnel in the country’s drive towards quality healthcare. Mr. MWEETWA said the Government is aware of the challenges facing higher learning institutions and remains committed to supporting a conducive learning environment. Southern Province Minister CREDO NANJUWA said students have been grappling with accommodation difficulties, with many forced to seek housing far from campus at high cost and increased risk. Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor Professor ROYSON MUKWENA said the four-storey modern hostel, fully funded from locally generated resources, is expected to be completed within 12 months.
