Various shots of demonstration STORYLINE: Thousands of people marched through the streets of Gaza on Thursday in support of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. The demonstrators, members of the Palestinian working union, chanted pro-Arafat slogans and called on Israel to allow him leave to Ramallah. Israel has banned Arafat from travelling out of Ramallah until he arrests those responsible for the assassination of Israeli Tourism Minister Rehavamn Zeevi. In a phone call on Wednesday, Arafat asked US Secretary of State Colin Powell to send peace envoy Anthony Zinni back to the region in order to calm things and to pressure Israel to allow him to leave Ramallah. In the past two months, Zinni has tried twice without success to work out a truce. The US State Department, however, said there were no plans to send the envoy.
