Many people still don't understand that there is a relationship between avoiding and burying emotions and physical pain. To stop ourselves from experiencing the core emotions that all humans have deeply wired in the brain, we use automatic and unconscious maneuvers that create tension in the body. We push the emotional energy that is supposed to come up and out into the muscles. It's no wonder that avoiding emotions leads to physical symptoms such as muscular pain, gastrointestinal distress, and exhaustion. Burying emotions also leads to depression and anxiety.
