Walking The Ancient Path Of Queen Mary Tudor - Pound Farm Woodland Trust Suffolk

In the summer of 2025 we visited the Woodland Trust Nature Reserve, Pound Farm. On the reserve is an ancient path called Queen Mary's Lane... named after the momentous events in 1553 when Mary Tudor was proclaimed Queen of England. It is said that she led her army down this route from Framlingham to London to claim the throne from Lady Jane Grey, where she became the first woman to be crowned Queen of England in her own right. When we visited in the summer the weather was extremely hot and we decided we were unable to explore this route and decided that a return visit would happen in the autumn. Today was the return... later in the autumn than we had previously planned but, it was a beautiful day and the colours were fantastic. The walk was worth the wait... walking across wide open fields we captured majestic hares running free, while walking through the ancient woodlands, many squirrels scurried about burying their treasures. We were so glad we returned on such a glorious day, cold but glorious!! The walk along with the nature reserve is definitely worth visiting and, is now on our top list of places to visit.
