Barry Mann had actually recorded it, thinking it would be his first hit as a solo artist wanting a singing career for himself, he’s already had a hit with the novelty song Who put the Bomb in the bomp bomp bomp and he was looking to break out with a song that he knew would be a hit, only the Animals beat him to the punch and stopped his momentum by cutting it themselves and changing the lyrics. in a far ranging interview coming up next both sides shares their side of the story including when Eric Burdon bumped into them at the doctor’s office and got a talking to and Burdon’s thoughts on another legend saying the song has inspired everything he’s ever done….
