Tim Cook (1971–2025) shaped how Canadians understand the World Wars. In this special episode, I sit down with JDM Stewart, Christopher Dummitt, Eric McGeer to remember Tim’s life and legacy—his courage through illness, his generosity to fellow historians, and the storytelling that brought trench life, memory, and meaning to the page. We talk about his role at the Canadian War Museum, his 19 books, and why his voice mattered so deeply. We also share personal stories—from conference halls to “Vimy beers”—and point new readers to essential Cook works: The Secret History of Soldiers, his two-volume histories of WWI & WWII, Lifesavers and Body Snatchers, Warlords, and The Good Allies. It’s a heartfelt conversation about mentorship, craft, and keeping Canadian history alive. History Matters is the podcast of the Canadian Institute for Historical Education. 👉 If this tribute resonates, please like, subscribe, and share with someone who loves Canadian history. Have thoughts or memories of Tim’s work? Add them in the comments—let’s build a public archive of appreciation.
