Ce charmant bourg est célèbre pour son patrimoine, mais aussi pour son fromage iconique en forme de cœur : le Neufchâtel, l’un des plus anciens fromages AOP de France. En passant devant le bâtiment du musée, on sent immédiatement l’âme historique du lieu. La route se poursuit vers l’est, à travers vallées et villages tranquilles, et nous mène à Moy-de-l’Aisne, où la campagne picarde dévoile toute son authenticité. Un peu plus loin, nous faisons une pause au canal de la Sambre à l’Oise, une ancienne voie navigable qui jouait autrefois un rôle majeur dans le commerce régional. Aujourd’hui, c’est un endroit paisible et pittoresque, parfait pour reprendre son souffle. Nous continuons ensuite par Mayot, Achery et Charmes, trois villages typiques où le temps semble s’arrêter. Chaque kilomètre nous rapproche de notre destination : le paisible Sainte-Croix, niché entre les collines verdoyantes de l’Aisne. Un petit village, mais un lieu où l’on ressent pleinement l’esprit de la France rurale. Onze reis begint in Tourville-les-Ifs, vlak bij de ruige kust van Fécamp, waarna we het groene binnenland in trekken richting Neufchâtel-en-Bray. Dit charmante stadje staat niet alleen bekend om zijn musea en erfgoed, maar vooral om zijn beroemde hartvormige kaas: Neufchâtel, een van de oudste AOC-kazen van Frankrijk. Terwijl we langs het museumgebouw rijden, voel je meteen hoe geschiedenis en gastronomie hier hand in hand gaan. De rit vervolgt zich oostwaarts, door rustige valleien en kleine dorpen, en voert ons door Moy-de-l’Aisne, waar het Franse platteland zich van zijn meest authentieke kant laat zien. Even later stoppen we bij het Canal de la Sambre à l’Oise, een van de historische waterwegen die ooit een belangrijke rol speelde in de regionale handel. Vandaag is het vooral een idyllische plek: spiegelend water, oude sluizen en absolute rust – perfect voor een korte pauze. Daarna rijden we verder door Mayot, Achery en Charmes, drie typische dorpen waar tijd lijkt te vertragen en de charme van het landelijke leven tastbaar is. Met elke kilometer komen we dichter bij ons eindpunt: het vredige Sainte-Croix, verscholen tussen de heuvels van het departement Aisne. Een klein dorp, maar precies zo’n plek waar je de ziel van Frankrijk voelt – stil, vriendelijk en omgeven door natuur.
