Most of them won’t be obeying you if you ask them to do so. Childhood meant for the kids to be very active and mischievous. That’s the happiest time in their lives. We have to ensure to make that safe as well. The kids may fall or bump their heads as part of the games. Every fall need not be bothersome. However, we should not be negligent when we see them get their heads hit. Head injury is the injury to the scalp, skull, brain, or blood vessels in the head. Some injuries will be mild like swelling or minor cuts in the scalp. The major injuries may be concussions or severe head trauma. According to data in 2016 from CDC, around 7 % of the kids under 17 have undergone some type of head injury. Wherever the kids play vigorously and actively, there are chances for a fall or head injury. No place is fall-proof including home. Shaking the infants while playing may be joyful to you but not for them. Since their brains are in the developing stage, vigorous shaking may cause the brain to hit against the skull and have shaken baby syndrome. When the newborns are handled carelessly during birth, it may result in birth injuries. Involving in sports activities like cycling, skating, swimming, and gymnastics can cause head injuries in children. Improper use or absence of car seats and booster seats can result in head injuries when involved in car accidents. Mild head injuries in children may have cuts, bump, blurred vision, abnormal walking or speech, pain in the head or neck, irritability, imbalance, nausea, and confusion. Symptoms of severe head injuries include open cuts, oozing out of fluid from the nose and ears, dilation of pupil, seizures, non-stop crying, vomiting and, loss of consciousness. Carelessness or delay in noting the injuries may aggravate the injury. Calm the kid down and give him some rest. Examine the injury and, if it is minor, place ice cubes wrapped in a towel on the bump every few hours. In the event of a bleeding wound, never put off seeking medical attention. All head injuries do not result in brain damage. Mild scalp injuries will necessitate immediate medical attention. However, detailed diagnosis and long-term medical care are required if there is a fracture or concussion. Immediate medical attention will save the children affected with brain hemorrhage from more serious dangers. Negligence may command a higher price. The doctors will conduct a thorough physical examination of the child and gather information about the fall from the parents. Depending on the severity of the injury, X-rays, CT, and MRI scans will be obtained for a more detailed diagnosis. An encephalogram is used to monitor the child's brain activity. Treatments will be administered based on the child's age and the type and severity of the injury. Milder injuries will be treated with rest and ice packs. Open wounds will be cleaned and bandaged after antibiotics have been applied. Severe traumatic brain injuries and concussions may necessitate the use of a ventilator and sedation. In the worst-case scenario, life-long assistance will be required.
