Welcome back to IntoMath Grade 6 Math EQAO prep. This is lesson 7 of our EQAO grade 6 2019 series, where we provide grade 6 mathematics lessons and solve grade 6 math word problems. In this lesson we are discussing and solving two problems. The first problem asks us to determine the distance Isla would cover in 50 minutes, measured in kilometers. The information given is that she runs 800 m in 10 minutes. We are using the unit rate concept to find out how many meters Isla can go in 1 minute (the speed in m/min). Then converting meters into kilometers (m to km, dividing by 1000). And finally, multiplying the result by 50 minutes in order to get the answer to the problem, which is 4 kilometers. In the second problem, we are given a set of 7 positive integers and we will learn how to find the mean of integers. Mean is the average of all numbers. In order to calculate the mean, we need to add up all of the numbers and divide the sum by their quantity (the number of numbers), which is 7 in this case. The final answer to this problem is 5.
