『The Burning Buddha Man』 The origin of anime and a film of an unspeakable experience! A mysterious horror anime about a Buddha statue-human hybrid. "Why don't you get fused with me to be a more sacred creature?" There is a series of Buddha statue thefts in Kyoto. Beniko (Yuka Iguchi), a high school girl, gets the Buddha statue at her family's temple stolen and has her parents killed at the same time. Beniko hears from Enzyu(Minori Terada), her parents' friend, that a robbery group called SEADDATTHA is the one who killed her parents, and feels the strong urge for vengeance. Enzyu offers Beniko to live with him since she has no place to go. She wanders into Enzyu's secret room and meets an ugly creature that looks like a fusion of her parents and Buddha statue... this animation is created using the technique called Gekimation (a technique where paper cutouts are moved in front of a background and special effects are added. "Nekomekozou" is the representative work). Its compelling quality of drawings and world that goes against "Moe", which is the current trend in anime, fascinates every viewer. Simplicity of Gekimation is sometimes criticized, but for this animation, this is the only technique to fully express the high quality drawings which cannot be expressed through usual techniques. The production took about a year and a half - much longer than average movies. This is a debut for the Kyoto based new creator, Ujicha, and he did almost all of the drawing, shooting and directing. His talent was discovered by Reo Anzai, a professor at his university, a famous figure and toy producer and who created a boom of giveaway toys coming with snacks. The heroine is played by Yuka Iguchi, a popular and talented voice actor (her other work includes "Index" in "Toaru Majutsu no Kinsyomokuroku Endymion no Kiseki", released in February 2013). Another highlight is an A-list actor, Minori Terada, who is also internationally famous for the voice of Muska in "Castle in the Sky(Tenkuh No Shiro Rapyuta". Terada means a lot to this animation since he often worked with a director Akio Jissoji, to whom this animation is created in homage. Chisako Hara, a legendary actress and a wife of Akio Jissoji, is also participating. Mitsuko Hoshi, the heroine of "Ultraman Ace" also makes a guest appearance. The theme song is by Saki "Sakura" Inagaki, who is popular for an imitation of Aska from "Evangelion" and on TV program "Rokemitsu". The script is co-written with Takeshi Nakazawa, an author of a novel "Hatsukoi Geinin". Other unique casts and staff include Hiroshige Watanabe of a comedian unit Cinderella Express, Tomomi Niji, a professional Shamisen player, and Moeka Haruhi, an idle wrestler, etc.
