British Polo Day's unbroken run of fair weather continues! As the sun (finally) arrived in time for the throw in at 3pm, upwards of 300 guests were in fine mood after InterContinental Moscow - Tverskaya's expansive lunch. The oysters, Pata Negra ham and a dizzying array of cheeses were just a part of this extraordinary culinary tour du force. With Beluga and Macallan's bars both expertly manned and fully stocked as well as Nespesso's machines humming away, the scene was well set for the two polo matches of the day. After the initial shock of Richard Paton-Philip falling early in the first chukka, who was thankfully able to return in time for the Prize Giving Ceremony with his broken collar bone well bound, umpire Ben Vestey replaced the Eton Captain and play swiftly resumed. Having been mounted quite beautifully by the Rodziankos, the host family of British Polo Day Russia, both Eton and Oxford emerged victorious 8 - 5 1/2 and 6 - 4 against the home sides. All the players were united in their opinion that The Moscow Polo Club's main ground is the finest international turf they had ever played on, which was particularly impressive given the deluge of rain that it had been subjected to in the fortnight leading up to the event. The success of British Polo Day Russia rested not just on the tireless efforts of the Rodzianko family and their team at The Moscow Polo Club but also on the support and backing of our remarkable partners. Land Rover, InterContinental Moscow - Tverskaya, InterContinental Park Lane, GAM, Charles Russell, Hackett, One Hundred Years, Abercrombie & Kent, Taittinger and Justerini & Brooks to name a few.
