New October 2025! See milestones and major upgrades of the Warringah Freeway Upgrade

The Warringah Freeway Upgrade will upgrade four kilometres of the Warringah Freeway, between High Street at North Sydney and Willoughby Road at Naremburn. The Upgrade will provide a link between the future Beaches Link and Western Harbour Tunnel with the project scheduled to be complete in 2026. NSW say they are simplifying the Warringah Freeway to make it safer and easier to use, and more efficient and reliable for the benefit of all road users, including public transport users. The Warringah Freeway Upgrade includes: • upgrades to interchanges at Falcon Street in Cammeray and High Street in North Sydney • relocation of road and shared user bridges across the Warringah Freeway • connection of the Warringah Freeway to the portals for the Western Harbour Tunnel mainline tunnels and the Beaches Link tunnels via on- and off-ramps • new and upgraded pedestrian and cyclist infrastructures • upgrades and modifications to bus infrastructure, and other operational infrastructure The total budget for the Warringah Freeway Upgrade is reportedly set to hit $2.11 billion, up from an initial allocation of $1.18 billion awarded in 2021. Pressure on project costs has significantly increased over time. The project is funded through a portion of the NSW 2021-22 Budget allocated $6.3 billion for the Western Harbour Tunnel, Beaches Link, and the Warringah Freeway Upgrade.
