Romanians mark 30th anniversary of revolution

(21 Dec 2019) Romania celebrated its heroes on Saturday as the country marked 30 years from the violent revolution that toppled the communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. Around 100 people gathered in the morning at the Revolution Heroes Cemetery for a commemoration service and to lay flowers at the graves of their loved ones. Some 1,104 people died during the nine-day uprising that toppled Ceausescu. The communist dictator and his wife, Elena, were executed after a show trial on Christmas Day, 1989.
