Skrjabin(Алекса́ндр Никола́евич Скря́бин, 1872-1915) Pianist: Petit Black Rose(2008) Scriabin's Fantasy op.28, written in 1900(when the composer was 28 years old), is one of the greatest masterpieces of piano literature. It was written inbetween the 3rd and 4th sonata. Fantasie op.28 was written in sonata form. The piece begins in b minor. Like his 3rd and 4th sonata, the tonic is constantly avoided, using ambiguous harmony. The second subject, which is one of the composer's most beautiful melodies, is in D major. We can hear a small canon in the right hand, echoing the melody. In the closing groups which is also in D major, the left hand plays octaves and chords with obsessive rhythm, the right hand playing the melody. In the short developement, the first subject is constantly repeated, harmonically progressing. It first appears in the left hand, and then the right hand. The developement ends in widespread, arpeggiated N6 chord, leading to the recapitulation. The recapitulation begins in b minor, with the first subject with arpeggios elaborating it. In the transition, both hands play arpeggios with polyrhythms, using borrowed chords, leading to the second subject. The second subject is recapitulated in B Major, grandeur and splended rather than tender, unlike the one in the exposition. This time both hands plays the canon. The closing groups is in the same key with the second subject. The coda starts with the first subject with the left hand playing the motive in the closing groups. Then, the second theme appears two times, elaborated with arpeggios in left hand at first, then with 16th notes in right hand and chords with left hand. After a dramatic allergando, the first theme with wide, magnificent arpeggios in the both hands appear, closing the entire piece.
