An incisional hernia, as the name indicates, occurs after the patient undergoes laparotomy for any other procedure and the most common symptom is a swelling in the anterior abdominal wall. They see a bulge, that is the most common presentation. Sometimes what happens is the patient will develop pain along with this hernia when the pain is there, it can be related to two reason. One is the omentum or the fat that tis there that is stuck in the incisional hernia or the intestines herniating out when it is only fat, patients will experience only the pain and there is no other bowel symptoms. Sometimes they might have a little bit of vomiting or fever, to where the intestines have herniated out , the patient will have bowel obstructed features, they are unable to pass flatus or motions and they starts vomiting and there is abdominal distention. The other symptoms that is very commonly related with incisional hernia is a sort of giving way when the patient coughs. In addition the patient starts vomiting and there would also be bowel obstructions symptoms occasionally even though there is no intestine that has herniated out this happens when the omentum is herniated out and the bowel tends to entangle out or go across the omentum that has herniated.
