I took some morning photos of trains arriving, departing, and passing at Nagatori Station on the Shinetsu Main Line. This station was originally built as a signal station, but due to petitions from residents, it was upgraded to a station in December 1953. However, due to the curves and slopes, it would have been very expensive to acquire land, so the station structure has an island platform and the waiting room is embedded under the platform to keep construction costs down. The platform can be reached by going through an underground passage from the waiting room and climbing up a flight of stairs. Perhaps because there was no land available, the platform is narrow. This station is located in the mountains, but it is on the Shinetsu Main Line, which is part of the Japan Sea Circular Line, and many freight trains come and go. At the time of day when I took this photo, a total of six freight trains were passing through, both up and down.
