Dell Precision T5500 - In our video, we will review the Dell Precision T5500 tower server. We will spend most our time discussing the memory & processors. We will provide a thorough overview on the different sizes, speeds and types of compatible RAM . We will also show you how you can max out your Dell T5500. We will go over how to install, configure and upgrade the memory and show some tips and tricks along the way. This video will provide details on how to open and access the components inside your Dell Precision T5500. Sit back, relax and enjoy! Let's begin! The RAM for the Dell Precision T5500 is pretty simple as a whole. It accepts DDR3 server modules and there are 12 DIMM slots. There are 2 types of compatible memory: ECC Registered (RDIMM) and ECC Unbuffered (Server UDIMM). We always recommend RDIMMs. Why you ask? Well, ECC Registered is much less expensive on a price per GB while also offering much higher scalability. There are a few different speeds supported: 1066MT/s, 1333MT/s or 1600MT/s. Please note 1600 will clock down to 1333. Yes 1600 will work... Just not at full speed. Sizes supported include 2GB 4GB 8GB and 16GB. Question we hear a lot. Do 32GB DIMMs work with the Dell R5500? No. Unfortunately, 32GB modules are not supported by the Dell Precision T5500 workstation. 16GB is the highest size module and only for ECC Registered. Meaning the max configuration is 192GB via 12 x 16GB 1333MT/s ECC Registered Server Memory. For ECC unbuffered the max config is 6 x 8GB 1333MT/s. The Dell Precision T5500 is a dual CPU socket server operating on Intel Xeon 5500 or 5600 series processors. We recommend buying hex cores CPUs such as X5650 X5660 X5670 or E5645 because they are very inexpensive nowadays. The processor socket is LGA1366. You will find 6 DIMMs per processor and three memory channels per processor. This means there are 2 DIMMs per memory channel. This is important for quad rank modules.
