This was one of those long, smoky, hard-working kind of days. We’ve been clearing out an old walnut orchard that hasn’t produced in years, and today was all about getting the last of the trees down and burning them off. Some of these trees were old and hollow, others still had good solid wood in them, but they all had to go to make way for what’s next on this piece of ground. It’s always a mix of feelings taking out trees like this. On one hand, you hate to see old walnut go up in smoke, but on the other hand, it’s part of cleaning up and moving forward. Once the saws fired up and the first pile started burning, the day really got going. Between running the tractor, stacking brush, and keeping the fire fed, the hours went by fast. By the time the sun started setting, that big burn pile was glowing like a beacon. There’s something about standing there watching the fire after a long day of work — the crackle, the heat, the smell of walnut wood burning. It’s exhausting but satisfying, seeing all the effort come together like that. If you enjoy this kind of work or just like watching real, hands-on days out in the country, stick around — there’s plenty more to come. I’ll be sharing more as we get this land cleared and start the next project. Thanks for watching! Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever done orchard cleanup or any big burn projects. I’d love to hear how you handle it in your area.
