Are you empty enough for the Spirit to fill you?

Life feels crowded, loud, and overwhelming, and deep down, many of us are longing for something different. In this message, Pastor Ed turns to 2 Kings 4:1–7 and teaches on “new oil,” reminding us that the oil represents the Holy Spirit and that God’s greatest abundance often shows up in our deepest places of emptiness. Elisha asks the widow a simple question: “What do you have in the house?” Her answer is small, “a jar of oil,” but her obedience is bold. She is told to gather empty vessels, “not too few,” shut the door, and pour. As she pours, the oil multiplies. The miracle doesn’t stop because God runs out of oil; it stops when they run out of vessels. Pastor Ed challenges us with this truth: we don’t have an oil problem and we don’t have a vessel problem; we have an emptiness problem. Our lives are often filled with too many things that leave no room for God to work. New oil requires new space. God fills what is emptied, and overflow follows surrender. This message calls us to drain what does not belong, make room for God, and believe that He can heal the past, meet the needs of today, and provide for tomorrow. New year, new oil.
