Two years ago (2020), everything changed for me when my little sister and only sibling was killed in a car accident. She was 32 years old. The last thing she shared on social media was a link to my music. If you have lost a loved one and are learning to live with grief, I wrote this song for you. Nothing I can sing or say can take away the heartbreak that you have experienced. However, I pray you find some comfort in the reminder that Jesus Christ knows what you are going through. He experienced every human emotion including pain, suffering, loss, abandonment, grief etc. Verse 1 is a reference to the agony of Christ as he prayed in the garden of Gethsemene (Matthew 14), and verse 2 is my personal account of one of the most difficult days I have experienced on earth so far. Song title: You've Been There Artist: David Ashley Trent Lyrics: Verse 1: Every time I feel like no one could ever understand This kind of heartache the lonely place that I’ve been in I’m reminded of the garden where You prayed for it to pass You relate to us like that Chorus: When You speak peace I believe ‘cause I know You’ve been there You’ve been there And when You say Don’t be afraid. Oh I won’t ‘cause You’ve been there You’ve been there Verse 2: Even in the moment when that phone call came from home I fell apart when they told me My little sister was gone In the silence, there beside me No stranger to my grief God, You weep with those who weep Chorus: When You speak peace I believe ‘cause I know You’ve been there You’ve been there And when You say Don’t be afraid. Oh I won’t ‘cause You’ve been there You’ve been there Bridge: Wounded, abandoned, rejected, despised Whatever my lot, God you know what it’s like Chorus: When You speak peace I believe ‘cause I know You’ve been there You’ve been there And when You say Don’t be afraid. Oh I won’t ‘cause You’ve been there You’ve been there
