Monica Forsberg - Ge Mej Dina Tankar (Torn Between Two Lovers) Single B-side, EMI – 7C 006-35714, Sweden, 1979. On the flip side of “Det är helt OK!” sits something entirely different in tone. “Ge Mej Dina Tankar” is Monica Forsberg’s Swedish version of Torn Between Two Lovers, written by Peter Yarrow and Phillip Jarrell and originally recorded by Mary MacGregor. Released in 1976, the original became a massive international hit, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and topping adult contemporary charts in multiple territories. Soft, confessional and radio-friendly, it perfectly captured the mid-70s wave of polished, emotionally restrained pop balladry. Monica once again wrote the Swedish lyrics herself. While the A-side leans toward late-70s glam-tinged pop, “Ge Mej Dina Tankar” moves firmly into adult contemporary territory. The emotional tension of the original — divided affection, moral hesitation, restrained drama — is preserved, but filtered through Monica’s distinctly Swedish lyrical sensibility. As with many of her 1970s recordings, this was part of a steady stream of well-chosen international covers. She consistently selected strong source material, wrote her own Swedish texts and delivered solid performances. But while the originals were global hits, her versions rarely achieved comparable commercial impact. Still, these singles show something important: she wasn’t just interpreting songs — she was actively reshaping them. That craft would soon become her primary calling card. In the 1980s, Monica Forsberg would become one of the most influential lyricists in Melodifestivalen history, winning with “Dag efter dag” (Chips) in 1982 and “Främling” (Carola Häggkvist) in 1983. Privately, she is married to Hasse "Kvinnaböske" Andersson — another enduring figure in Swedish music. “Ge Mej Dina Tankar” may not have topped charts, but it captures Monica in the middle of a formative decade — artist, adaptor and lyricist all at once. Or in some cases perhaps a more complete or in better quality version. Always ripped and recorded from my own vinyl collection. Focus on Swedish covers of international hits, of Eurovision stuff and other easy listening from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.
