Bawku Conflict | “We Only Performed Our Father’s Funeral” From Mamprugu Youth To Interior Committee!

NEWS REPORT Bawkufm Update: A high-profile delegation on Sunday, September 25, 2022, consisting of the IGP, Interior Minister, and Chief of Defense Staff visit Bawku to meet with factions visited Bawku in the Upper East Region to meet factions involved in the Bawku conflict in a bid to bring peace to the area. The Inspector General of Police, the Interior Minister, the Defence Minister and the Chief of Defense Staff all sector commanders for the Northern command called on the factions on both sides chiefs and youth to dialogue for peace to prevail in Bawku. Both the speech of the Defence and interior minister was basically to find peace for the people of Bawku. They were however confronted with evidence of their previous statement made by the interior and Minister of chieftaincy that is escalating the conflict in Bawku. Topical in both of the discussions was the issue of the supreme court ruling in 2003. Lawyers present stated their positions emphatically that the was “no supreme court ruling on the sub-tensive matter as to who is the legitimate Bawku Naba” AND that anybody purporting to be saying so is contributing to flaming the already volatile situation. The interior minister apologizes on his own behalf and on behalf of the regional minister and asks that anybody that has problems should always resort to the court for redress instead of the gun. The youth and people concluded by agreeing to lay down the guns under certain Assurance or conditions. 1. Intensifying patrols in the area 2. Find a way of stopping attacks on the outskirts of the town 3. Extending the ban of motor and YELLOW YELLOW RIDING to other Districts like Pusiga and Binduri 4.
