Sudha Kongara worked as a screenwriter for the English film Mitr, My Friend. She also worked as an associate director with Mani Ratnam for seven years. Sudha Kongara's directorial debut in Tamil began with Drohi starring Srikanth & Vishnu Vishal, then Sudha Kongara began her sports drama film on boxing which was titled Irudhi Suttru starring Madhavan and Rithika Singh. Sudha Kongara and Madhavan had previously collaborated under the direction of Mani Ratnam, where Sudha had been an associate director. Sudha Kongara then remade Irudhi Suttru in Telugu as Guru. Her next film was Soorarai Pottru starring Suriya which is based on the life of Air Deccan founder Captain GR Gopinath feature and it is produced by Suriya's 2D Entertainment.
