This video shows the internals of the direct injection fuel pump supply system for the M5M or MR16DDT engine and the limits this place on the HP capacity of this engine. The Injectors based on the maths before losses for piston to bore seal would give a total fuel flow of around 650cc/minute at 3000 camshaft rpm or 6000 crankshaft rpm, unfortunately this style of pump usually only delivers around 80 to 85% efficiency based on Bosch data sheets and wear and tear. This is as a result of the fact there is no piston to bore sealing device fitted ie the system is designed to leak some flow around the piston to stop the piston coming into contact with the bore of the pump and the efficiency of the operation and sealing of the spill valve. This reduction would suggest a delivery value capacity of around 2140 cc/minute total at 6000 engine rpm or around 535cc/minute per cylinder maximum delivered fuel. If you look up most HP to injector size calculators rated at 100% duty cycle per cylinder it will give you a suggested ceiling of the HP available from the direct injection system fitted to these engines based on brake specific fuel consumption and engine efficiency. link to the upgrade HPD6 pump kit mentioned in the video https://shop.rstune.alsace/article/po... This may and should deliver an increase in HP output from the engine. If you purchase this upgrade kit you need to ensure your tuner of choice can integrate this pump into there tune strategy, if not please consider RSTune as a supplier of your next tune.
