Now More Than Ever: Community Archives, Activism, and Disrupting Time

How can archivists help marginalized communities beyond diverse collecting and inclusive descriptions? Dr. Michelle Caswell (Department of Information Studies, University of California Los Angeles) will discuss five different community archives sites and how archives can be potential sites for disrupting the cyclical nature of oppression. This presentation will explore emerging examples from archival practice to illustrate possibilities for archival disruption, and galvanize archivists to embrace activism during times of political and social crisis. Dr. Caswell is a professor at the University of California Los Angeles and the co-founder of the South Asian American Digital Archive, an online repository that documents and provides access to the diverse stories of South Asian Americans.
