Deep-Sea Vent Movie: Life Without Sunlight

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, in collaboration with New Bedford Ocean Explorium, invites you to explore the deep sea with a movie for spherical display systems - "Life Without Sunlight." You will dive beneath the sunlit ocean to the darkness of deep-sea vents, where hot water spews from the seafloor and fuels food webs based on chemosynthesis. Imagery obtained with deep-sea vehicles illuminates this otherworld of ecosystems linked to deep Earth and ocean systems. You will tour the Earth's plate boundaries to see where deep-sea vents have been discovered over the past four decades. Our storyline addresses Earth science and ocean literacy principles.
