This was originally, an 8 mm movie, without sound, which was transferred to DVD over ten years ago. This DVD had been lost and I just found it. The last time I knew where this DVD was, You Tube did not yet exist. This movie was taken aboard the USS Henry B. Wilson, DDG-7 during 1971. The first images you see are the USS Brooke, DEG-1, which we operated with. Then you photos of the harbor at DaNang, then you see videos taken in downtown Hiroshima, site where the first Atomic Bomb was dropped on Aug 6, 1945. As time goes on I will update this description with times and places. Since this movie was taken from the deck of the USS Henry B Wilson, DDG-7, you'll see very little of that ship in the movie. Many of the ships you will see are ships of the Soviet Navy. Soviet ships have their hull numbers painted in the middle of the ship whereas US ships have their hull numbers painted on the front of the ship. You'll see several shots of underway replenishment, i.e. refueling at sea. You'll see our sister ship the Brooke refuel, then you'll see several Soviet ships, then you'll us refuel. At about the 28 min mark, we have pulled into the port of DaNang. At about 28 min and 45 seconds we are in Hong Kong. There is a British Air Craft Carrier in port in Hong Kong. About the 42 minute mark we pulled into Singapore. At the 47 min 45 sec mark you'll see what happens to a 5 inch gun barrel which overheats. At 48 minutes we are back in Pearl Harbor on our home. Then you see toward the end our welcome home party at Pier 2 of the Naval Station at 32nd Street in San Diego. When you see balloons on the pier, we're back in San Diego. The last thing on the movie is the Star of India, a really old sailing ship located in San Diego Harbor at the foot of Broadway.
