Aeris is Too Fat to Fly - Part 2

Old video - May 2010 Aeris is so fat and heavy that she can't really fly. She doesn't like to move around much so that doesn't help. Occasionally I try to exercise her, but am careful not to over exert her. Putting her on a diet is difficult, so encouraging exercise is the next best thing. Here I'm giving her a bit of a break, and Smudge seems interested in what's going on on the floor. Stealing the show as always when I pull the camera out. Background Story: Aeris was a wild rescue adoption that I took in March 2007. She was found in a friend's yard looking for food - she was quite starved and didn't care about being caught, she just wanted to eat. No idea how long she was lost flying around with no food or water (wild budgies are not common in Barbados - she likely got away from an owner). I was happy to take her in. After a few months of having her, she started to put back on healthy weight nicely. Unfortunately her brain was so programmed to eat as much as she could when she found food that she over eats all the time. It's difficult to put a budgie on a diet when there's more than one in the cage. She seems to be happy as she is, but I do try to encourage her to move around and exercise because all she does is just sit around all day doing nothing until it's time to eat.
