It is one of the oldest breeds. Her ancestors were Andalusian and Casilla breeds. Diego Almagro brought the first horses to Chile in 1536. And the first local horse breeder was Rodrigo Gonzalez de Marmolejo. By the 19th century, Chile had become the leading producer of quality horses in Latin America. The geographical isolation of the country allowed the Chilean breed to develop in genetic purity. The breed book was opened in 1893, and the standard was finally approved in 1921.
