Here's the next Three For All episode with 3 Steve Vai Licks From 1984. Steve Vai is a guitar legend with a resume the size of a phone book, as he's played with Frank Zappa, Alcatrazz, P.I.L., David Lee Roth, Whitesnake, and a host of other famous and interesting artists and groups, not to mention his own solo albums and instrumental music releases since the early 1980s. This lesson takes a look at a handful of ideas from an Alcatrazz concert in Japan from 1984, which wasn't too long after a young Yngwie Malmsteen left the group for his solo career, and Vai took over on guitar in Alcatrazz. This was Vai's period post-Zappa and pre-DLR, and I've always found his output during that time inspiring and different compared to his later musical exploits and directions. His work during this era comes across a little grittier and bluesier, with occasional Zappa-flourishes, and I feel he was still finding his own musical style and you can hear how much he's grown and changed since the time of this concert. There are some interesting and challenging licks in this lesson, so take your time with this one - Vai is a complete guitar legend for good reason.
