Time to change things further up now, being transported back to the 1980s, with a grunting, growling Leyland Atlantean, a bus I had video not too long ago, however this one I feel the far superior take. AN264 comprises the final batch of Leyland Atlanteans bought by London Country, brand new at least, all vehicles AN294 + were bought secondhand from other operators. These were AN68s with Park Royal-Roe single door bodies, many were allocated eastwards, new to either Stevenage or Grays. A brief summary of AN264s working life goes as follows: Feb 1981: Brand new to NBC London Country (LC) at Stevenage Garage Sep 1986: Allocated to London Country North East upon LC split up Feb 1989: Purchased by Sovereign Bus Apr 1989: Goes to London Country North West at Garston & H. Hempstead Oct 1990: Transfers to Luton & District Dec 1991: Sold to Maidstone & District, fleet number 5737 Aug 1995: Sold to London Links, operating from Beddington Farm circa 1997: Sold circa 2008: Bought for preservation circa 2020: Purchased by current owner. AN264 is powered by a Leyland O.680 11 litre engine coupled to a 5 speed semi-automatic gearbox, driven delightfully by owner Wesley, with melodic gearbox and growling fan aplenty. I am preferential to this video as: 1) I have the vehicle all to myself with no interruptions 2) There's a lot more stop-start action, providing better engine acoustics. I hope all who watch thoroughly enjoy! Start: Hemel Hempstead Station Finish: Aylesbury Vale Parkway Station (minus a bit on the A41)
