Christmas is such a special time to come together around a table with family and friends. And decorating the table makes it feel extra special. We teamed up with stylist and influencer Pandora Maxton to create a table we hope provides some inspiration for yours this festive season. I can’t resist styling a table, especially at Christmas. I love the process of taking a bare table and bring it to life with florals, glassware, dinnerware, candles, and whatever your heart desires. The result? A magical, festive scene that sets the tone for your celebration. And here’s the best part - it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Use what you have with a few top ups as things don’t need to match, and for foliage and florals - forage them! Let’s dive into how you can create a show-stopping Christmas table with a few simple touches. How to Create a Wow Factor Christmas Table You can't go wrong with red gingham - it's timeless and works across the seasons. This year, my Christmas table starts with a gorgeous red gingham tablecloth. Pairing red and green creates a fresh, festive look that feels lighter and brighter for the season. However there are so many choices for tablecloths. 1 Overhead Magic Before I got to the table itself, I added an overhead display for extra wow factor. Overhead bars are affordable, long-lasting, and instantly add height and drama to your setting. This one is dressed with a faux spruce garland, secured with floristry wire. From there, I layered in fresh eucalyptus, gypsophila, and battery-operated string lights with red bows. For the final touch, I hung glass tea light baubles using raffia. It’s a gorgeous overhead scene that’s so simple yet effective. Alternatively, hanging a branch from the ceiling on hooks is another option to create an overhead display. 2 Time to Layer the Table Start with the centerpiece. I used a hessian table runner for a rustic, cosy feel. Then came my Christmas trees, potted heather, and two little festive displays. The trick? Layering. Keep things balanced but don’t be afraid to add more for depth. And now, candles—lots of candles! I mixed glass holders with ombre dinner candles and scattered tea lights around the centre for that extra sparkle. Battery tea lights are a great option too if you are worried about real candles. For table mats, seagrass is my go-to. It’s super versatile and fits any theme. I paired them with our elegant white dinnerware—classic, versatile, and timeless. 3 Glassware To keep the festive feel, I opted for red and green wine glasses, tumblers, and a matching carafe. The colours tie everything together and add that extra pop of holiday spirit. 4 Napkins There’s so much to play with when it comes to napkins—plain, patterned, frilly, paper, or cotton! For larger gatherings, paper napkins are a lifesaver, and I adore the pattern on these. No fuss, no ironing. I simply laid them on each plate, though you can also tie them with ribbon or add a sprig of foliage for a lovely touch. 5 Finishing Touches Table games, trivia and jokes are a great way to get everyone chatting around the table. These can be used to decorate the table or even add them as table gifts. The name place holders.
