This Pokémon TCG Pocket deck is built around Mega Gyarados EX, focusing on heavy damage, deck disruption, and a much safer setup than previous Gyarados builds. The main strategy is to eliminate Mega Gyarados’s old weaknesses by protecting it on the Bench while accelerating Energy efficiently, allowing it to enter the Active Spot fully powered and ready to dominate the game. Mega Gyarados EX Mega Gyarados EX is the core of the deck and your main win condition. For 4 Energy, it deals 140 damage and discards the top 3 cards of your opponent’s deck, applying constant pressure through both damage and resource denial. In the past, Gyarados decks struggled because Magikarp was extremely fragile with only 30 HP, and Mega Gyarados could be forced into the Active Spot before being fully charged. This deck solves those issues, allowing Mega Gyarados EX to be set up safely and consistently before taking over the game. Jellicent Jellicent is the engine that makes the deck work. When Jellicent is in the Active Spot and is damaged by an opponent’s attack, its Ability lets you take an Energy from your Energy Zone and attach it to one of your Benched Pokémon, usually Mega Gyarados EX. This allows you to willingly take damage with Jellicent while rapidly charging your main attacker in complete safety. Jellicent is also a strong counter to Oricorio: with Training Area in play, it reaches exactly 70 damage, enough to knock out Oricorio in a single hit. Against Mega Kangaskhan, Jellicent becomes even better, since Kangaskhan attacks twice and triggers Jellicent’s Ability two times in one turn, accelerating Energy even faster. Protective Poncho Protective Poncho completely changes how Mega Gyarados EX can be played. As long as the Pokémon it’s attached to stays on the Bench, it prevents all damage from your opponent’s attacks and Abilities. This removes one of Mega Gyarados’s biggest historical weaknesses: bench damage from Pokémon like Greninja, Jolteon, Heatmor, and similar threats. With Protective Poncho attached, Mega Gyarados EX can no longer be sniped or chipped down, allowing you to fully commit to setting it up without fear. Win Condition The deck aims to keep Jellicent in the Active Spot early, absorbing damage and accelerating Energy, while Mega Gyarados EX is safely built on the Bench with Protective Poncho.
