What do you do when faithfulness leads to rejection instead of affirmation? In Acts 6–7, we encounter Stephen, a man full of faith, grace, and power, whose obedience to God places him on trial before the very leaders meant to shepherd God’s people. What unfolds is one of the most powerful moments in the book of Acts. Through a Spirit-filled defense, Stephen walks through Israel’s history and exposes a repeated pattern. God sends deliverers, and His people reject them. From Abraham, to Joseph, to Moses, to the prophets, and ultimately to Jesus, rejection becomes the backdrop for God’s redemptive work. This message walks through: 1. Abraham — promised a place and a people before there was a temple 2. Joseph — rejected by family yet positioned by God to save 3. Moses — rejected by Israel but faithful to deliver 4. The Temple — defended as a structure while God Himself was resisted 5. Jesus — rejected by His people, yet reigning in glory Stephen’s story reminds us that being rejected by people does not mean being rejected by God. Faithfulness is not measured by acceptance, comfort, or success, but by obedience. Though Stephen is condemned on earth, he is honored in heaven, welcomed by Jesus Himself. This message challenges us to examine where we may be clinging to tradition, comfort, or familiarity while resisting the work of the Holy Spirit. God is still advancing His mission through faithful witnesses who are willing to trust Him, even when the cost is high.
