It’s pneumatic battery-powered lifting technology allows it to be powerful, portable, and easy to operate. When you open the CAMEL, you’ll immediately notice how small and light it is. It packs easily into its included carrying bag and weighs only 15 pounds. To match that portability, the included battery-powered compressor weighs only 9 pounds - and it’s about the size of a defibrillator. To operate the CAMEL, first unfold the lifting cushion beside the patient, lining the logo up with the patient’s head. Connect the 4-way hand control to the compressor and the lifting cushion - using the numbers and colors as your guide. Then turn the compressor on. Help the patient into a lying position on top of the CAMEL, using one hand to support the patient and the other to hold the control. Press and hold the number 1 on the control to partially inflate the backrest until the patient is in a comfortable position. Then press and hold 2, which will inflate fully until it becomes rigid, at which point the compressor will stop operating. Continue with buttons 3 and 4 until the patient has reached a height where you can aid them in standing. To deflate the CAMEL, disconnect the controller from the compressor and press each number to deflate each compartment, applying pressure if necessary. Thanks to it’s portability, the CAMEL can easily be stored out of the way for emergencies. It takes about 16 hours to charge the compressor fully, which gives the unit at least 8 full lifts - and the easy to read display means you’ll always know how much power you have left. So who is the CAMEL for? If you need a portable, easy-to-operate lift that can raise an immobile patient completely off the ground and sit them up, then it might be the right fit for you. If you need extra portability and the ability to lift in tight spaces, Mangar’s ELK is a bit more compact - as long as your patient doesn’t need the extra assistance sitting up.
