This is a video to show you how to improve your standing starts so you can learn to start faster. Improving your standing start can make a big difference to races. This is the first in a series of videos on starts. A standing start is the simplest of starts and the easiest to perform. Start with one leg behind the line and the other 30-50cm back (whatever feels comfortable). This is called a split stance start. The back leg should be your dominant leg – this is usually your kicking foot. Have your opposite hand forward to the front leg (eg if your left leg is forward, have your right arm forward). Bend at the hips and have a slight bend in the legs. When you start, make sure you extend fully into “triple point extension” and get your first few steps behind your hips. Using these tips will help you to perfect your standing start! Let us know how you get on. We hope you enjoyed this video – don’t forget to subscribe!
