Sermon - Pastor Lamont S. Jones Today's Message: Paul’s Final Words Of Warning, Greetings, & Benediction To The Saints In Rome — Rom. 16:17-27 ✵✵✵Prayer reminder: For Every Church In PG County To Become A House Of Prayer ✵✵✵ Background: The Prayer Of A Minor Prophet by A. W. Tozer This is the prayer of a man called to be a witness to the nations (A. W. Tozer). This is what he said to his Lord on the day of his ordination. After the elders and ministers had prayed and laid their hands on him he withdrew to meet his Saviour in the secret place and in the silence, farther in than his well-meaning brethren could take him. And he said: O Lord, I have heard Thy voice and was afraid. Thou hast called me to an awesome task in a grave and perilous hour. Thou are about to shake all nations and the earth and also heaven, that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. O Lord, our Lord, Thou has stooped to honor me to be Thy servant. No man takes this honor upon himself save he that is called of God as was Aaron. Thou has ordained me Thy messenger to them that are stubborn of heart and hard of hearing. They have rejected Thee, the Master, and it is not to be expected that they will receive me, the servant. As quoted in A Passion for God: The Spiritual Journey of A. W. Tozer by Lyle Dorsett (Chicago, IL; Moody, 2008), pp. 65-68. ✵✵✵ The quoted A.W. Tozer reading above has been abridged due to text limitations, the full quoted reading can be viewed here: https://kendallbc.com/KBC_Sermon_Note... Outline: Paul’s Final Words Of Warning vv.17-20 Greetings From Fellow Workers & Countrymen vv.21-24 He Who Is Able to Establish You vv.25-27 Text: Paul’s Final Words Of Warning vv.17-20 1st Instruction to the believers regarding Satan’s servants Rom. 16:17-27 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them {cp. 1 Cor. 1:10-18, 3:1-9}. 18 For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple {reminiscent of Gen. 3}. 19 For your obedience has become known to all {the enemy plants those who cause divisions and offenses to mar/defile their reputation & dismantle their obedience}. Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil {i.e. not to learn the tricks/trade/practices of those of who cause divisions and offenses}. 2nd Action the LORD will take against the leader of these servants. 20 And the God of peace {not divisions} will crush Satan under your feet shortly {cp. Gen. 3:14-15}. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen. Paul’s Final Greetings From Fellow Workers & Countrymen vv. 21-24 21 Timothy, my fellow worker {cp. Acts 16:1-3; 1 Cor. 16:8-11} , and Lucius, Jason, and Sosipater, my countrymen, greet you. 22 I, Tertius, who wrote this epistle, greet you in the Lord. 23 Gaius, my host and the host of the whole church, greets you. Erastus, the treasurer of the city, greets you, and Quartus, a brother. 24 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. He Who Is Able to Establish You vv.25-27 25 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began 26 but now has been made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures has been made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith-- 27 to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen. Closing Prayer ☞ Receiving the free gift of eternal life Repent: Mt. 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Confess: Rom. 10:9-10, 13 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 13 For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved." Suggested Prayer: Knowing that I have sinned, and I need the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior, I now turn from my sins and trust Him for my eternal life. I ask Jesus Christ to forgive me, and to deliver me from sin’s penalty and power and give me eternal life. I now give Jesus Christ control of my life. From this time forward, as He gives me strength, I will seek to trust Him and obey Him in all areas of my life. Evangelism Explosion booklet “Do You Know” pg. 20 © ☞ ☞ Benediction — Heb. 13:20-21
