Our chilled family surf day in Jamaica turned into a full-on scam… and a big lesson for our 1177 mission. We started in Portland with a late family “roots” tour, visiting homes and graves where our relatives lived and are buried. The day was already slipping away in the heat by the time we reached Boston Jerk Centre for jerk chicken, roast breadfruit, and festivals. With Reach Falls off the table for the day, we headed to Boston Bay Beach as a consolation stop. The kids got their first surf lesson, I filmed from the water and with the drone, and for a while everything felt perfect. Then my drone hit the ocean. And right after that, we realized the “instructor” who had approached us on the beach was not the person we had actually booked with. In this episode I walk through how a bunch of small choices stacked up, how one person took advantage of the situation, and how we pushed back, kept our money, and still protected our kids and our trip. 0:00 - Something feels off on the beach 0:40 - Today’s plan in Portland, Jamaica 2:47 - Late start and the little house shop 3:36 - Family graves on the property 4:36 - One last stop in the heat 5:19 - Lunch at Boston Jerk Centre (jerk chicken, breadfruit, festivals) 7:45 - Reach Falls is off, Boston Bay Beach is on 8:50 - Heading down to the beach 9:21 - Surf lesson warm-up on the sand 10:06 - First waves and drone shots 11:30 - Drone crash into the ocean 12:30 - Realising something is wrong with our “instructor” 14:30 - Standing our ground on the beach 16:09 - How all the “Swiss cheese” lined up 17:10 - The Jamaica we actually met (kind locals montage) 18:00 - Reach Falls teaser and what is coming next This is not a “Jamaica is unsafe” story. It is a “pay attention, double-check names and prices, and do not let one person define a whole country” story. We also highlight the many Jamaicans who were kind, honest, and went above and beyond for our family on this trip. #Jamaica #TravelScam #surfing 🌍 One Family. One Mission. 7 Continents. 7 Wonders.
