On the close ups you can see the spiked edge around the drive centre. In the middle of that drive centre is a half inch long by quarter inch diameter locating pin that fits the hole made by the drill bench you can see to the left of the picture. I have two of these, what I call Trett Centres after the man who made them for me, and the other has a middle point that locates on a punched hole which is marked slightly off centre. To ensure the outer 'teeth' grip well, the centre point is sprung against a piece of cloth or wool. After locating the off centre mark, the point retracts to allow the outer teeth to grip and then, when the tailstock pike is screwed up tightly to the corresponding off-centre point, the oval collars of the powder boxes can be turned. On the lathe bed below the pulley; known as a roller, you can see a wooden pot which is next to the sprung Trett Centre and you can a white 'spot' which is the springy material at the back of the point.
