U.S. Army Major Sorffly Davius, a dedicated New York Army National Guardsman and 12-year NYPD veteran, was honored in a dignified transfer at Dover Air Force Base on March 9, 2026. Maj. Davius tragically passed away on March 6 following a non-combat medical episode at Camp Buehring, Kuwait, while deployed in support of Operation Epic Fury. Assigned to the Headquarters Battalion of the 42nd Infantry Division out of Troy, N.Y., Maj. Davius was a true "citizen-soldier." Back home, he served the Bedford-Stuyvesant community in Brooklyn's 79th Precinct and protected critical infrastructure with the Joint Task Force Empire Shield. We honor his dual service to his city and his nation, and our thoughts are with his wife, his six children, and his colleagues in the NYPD and U.S. Armed Forces. Leave your condolences for the Davius family and his fellow service members in the comments below. Subscribe to DEFENSE NOW for the latest updates on global military deployments and defense news.
