The 1/4 mile Culver City dirt track had a special breed of down and dirty racers, locals having a good time racing beat up modified jalopy's around the oval track. Garage mechanics stock car racing. It is said some of these jalopies, like a 1932 Ford, could be purchased at the time for $5, and you're in the racing business! A lot different from NASCAR racing today. The show has wild racing action with modified jalopy's from the 1930's and 1940's, including the popular "Crackup of the Week" segment. This episode features driver Al Thompson commenting on his crash. The Culver City Stadium Speedway was torn down in 1954. Douglas Aircraft Company built a factory on the site.
