Parent University is a district-wide initiative organized by school counselors to provide parents with vital resources and information to enhance their children's academic success, emotional well-being, and overall health and safety. This event marks the second annual Parent University, during which over 250 families engaged with subject matter experts to explore effective strategies for supporting their children's achievement. The event features 12 distinct breakout sessions, each lasting 25 minutes, led by professionals from various fields. These sessions cover a range of topics, including techniques for student organization, financial planning for college, strategies for success in middle and high school, and guidance on mental health issues pertaining to students. Additionally, families are encouraged to visit the 20 exhibitors present at Parent University. These exhibitors provide information on a variety of resources, such as mental health support services, substance abuse treatment centers, and therapy animals. This event offers parents a valuable opportunity to gain insights and resources to foster their children's development. Landon Bailey, a school counselor at Kingstown Elementary, played a pivotal role in organizing Parent University. She holds the perspective that parents will acquire valuable insights that will empower them to effect positive changes in their home environments. "They always say we're lifelong learners, adults. We're looking, we're learning all the time. So as our kids are coming to school and investing in education, it's really cool to see the parents investing as well, because families want to see their children succeed, and we'll do anything to make it happen. And I think one thing is just finding the information and resources that are out there to bring them to them. And then coming out today, I feel like it just shows how important this is."
