A quiet passage past one of Papua New Guinea’s most historic and beautiful coastlines — Salamaua, in the Huon Gulf of Morobe Province. Captured on the afternoon of Sunday, January 25, 2026, using my DJI Action 5 Pro, this moment became more than just video. It became a reflection on place, history and memory. Salamaua holds a special position in our nation’s story. Long before highways, modern ports and airports, this coastline was one of PNG’s most important gateways — linking the country to the outside world and shaping early settlement, trade and aviation. As the boat moved quietly along the shoreline, it passed beautiful beach houses and the peaceful coastal village of Laugui, where life continues at the gentle pace of the sea. Children played near the water, homes stood close to the shore, and the village reflected a way of life that has endured for generations. During World War II, Salamaua stood at the centre of major Pacific campaigns. The mountains behind the village, the harbour and the surrounding coastline witnessed events that would forever change Papua New Guinea’s history. Today, the echoes of that era remain — not in conflict, but in the silence of the shoreline and the steady movement of the sea. As the afternoon unfolded, the landscape felt untouched by time. The same ridges, the same coastline, the same waters that generations before us had known. This video is about slowing down and remembering — a reminder that some places do not fade with time, but grow deeper in meaning. At PNG@50, Salamaua stands as a symbol of resilience, sacrifice and identity — a place where our past still speaks quietly to the present. 🎥 Filmed with: DJI Action 5 Pro 📍 Location: Salamaua and Laugui Village, Huon Gulf, Morobe Province 📅 Date: Sunday, January 25, 2026 If this video stirs memories or inspires reflection, please like, share and subscribe.
