There’s something so special about old paper. In this video, I’m flipping through a stack of vintage magazines and catalogs likely from the 1960s and 70s — estate sale treasures that were hours away from being forgotten. We’ll wander through aged advertisements, typography, fashion spreads, brittle pages, and unexpected color palettes… all with one purpose: To spark ideas. I use vintage publications like these to create junk journals, layered collage spreads, and curated ephemera packs for paper crafters who love texture, history, and a little grit in their art. As I flip through each page, I’m looking for: • Interesting fonts and headline styles • Faded color combinations • Unique illustrations and graphic elements • Paper textures and vintage details • Imagery that tells a story If you love junk journaling, mixed media, slow stitching, or paper collage, estate sales and thrift shops are gold mines. These pieces deserve to be reused, reimagined, and kept out of the landfill — not tucked away in dusty boxes forever. I’ll also be turning some of these rescued pages into thoughtfully curated ephemera packs for my Etsy shop, along with other junk journal supplies for fellow paper lovers. If you’d like to create with these kinds of materials without hunting them down yourself, you’ll find them there. Let this be your permission slip to repurpose vintage paper. Art is a form of preservation.
