Carole M. Tanner, age 81, a resident of Lake Bluff, Illinois for 48 years, passed away December 21, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born July 17, 1944 to the late Theodore and the late Esther Corombos in Chicago, Illinois. Carole grew up in Redford, Michigan as the oldest of four. She attended Redford Union High School where she played the oboe, was a cheerleader and excelled academically. This led her to attend the University of Michigan where she met John during her very first week. She joined the Pi Beta Phi sorority and remained active throughout her time in college. She graduated in 1966 with her BS in Math Education. She and John were married the June after they both graduated and then departed to California as John took up his commission in the Air Force. Carole taught math the three years they were in California ending with John finishing his commission and the birth of their first child. They moved back to the Midwest where John and Carole would have three more children. The family moved to Lake Bluff in 1978 where they have been ever since. Once her children were older, Carole ventured into the business world, selling residential real estate, and retired from that in 2000. Carole was active in many community groups and gave of her time generously. Over the years, she served as the president of AAUW, was active in the League of Women voters, president of C.O.O.L, and a longtime member at St. James Lutheran Church. Carole loved to travel and learned to combine that love with service as she became a team leader for Habitat for Humanity, helping build houses in several countries. Carole’s greatest passion was her family. She worked to combine this love with her other interests whenever possible. Carole was an active investor belonging to LIFE investment club for many years and was teaching the younger generations of the family what she could about investing in the stock market. In addition to her own travels, there were several family trips including an anniversary celebration in Greece where people from all over the world came including relatives she had connected with through her genealogy research as well as the four foreign exchange students that had lived with the family over the years. She enjoyed playing bridge, mahjong and researching the family genealogy. Carole was a wonderful example of warmth, generosity, and love. She was full of enthusiasm and endless curiosity. Her strength and kind spirit touched so many. Beloved wife of 59 years to John C. Tanner II; loving mother of Cindy (John) Giambrone, Julie (Jeff) Wehmeyer, John C.
