As the name suggests, a permanent stoma is permanent. It cannot be reversed. 1:29 Why can't a permanent stoma be reversed? A permanent stoma is created to manage the loss of control of stool passage muscles. This can lead to involuntary passage of stool due to lack of control. To avoid this situation, permanent stomas are created.
