Our Spiti Expedition by Car (Tata Punch) is ongoing. In this video, I'll show you the road conditions from Tabo to Kaza via Poh. The road trip from Tabo to Kaza in Spiti Valley is a stunning journey filled with scenic beauty, rugged terrain, and picturesque villages like Poh. If you're driving a Tata Punch, it's a good choice due to its compact size, decent ground clearance, and SUV-like features that handle the challenging roads of Spiti Valley fairly well. Route Overview Distance: Approximately 47 km Driving Time: 2-3 hours (depending on road conditions and stops) Route: Tabo → Poh →Shichling → Attargo Bridge → Kaza Key Highlights Along the Route Tabo Monastery: Before leaving Tabo, visit the Tabo Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in India (founded in 996 CE). Enjoy the peaceful ambiance and ancient murals. Shichling: A small village on the way to Kaza. Offers views of the Spiti River and surrounding valleys. Gateway to Dhankar Monastery and Dhankar Lake (a short detour). Attargo Bridge: A narrow bridge connecting roads to Pin Valley National Park. Worth stopping here for pictures of the river and valley. Poh Village: A serene village known for its greenery and farmlands. Stop here for tea or snacks and enjoy the calm surroundings. Arrival at Kaza: Kaza is the largest town in Spiti Valley and serves as the hub for exploring nearby attractions like Key Monastery, Kibber Village, and Langza. Visit Kaza’s markets for handicrafts and local souvenirs. Driving Tips for Tata Punch in Spiti Road Conditions: Roads are narrow with sharp bends, loose gravel, and occasional water crossings. Drive cautiously. Check the road conditions in advance, especially after monsoons or snowfall. Vehicle Check: Ensure your Tata Punch is serviced, with proper tire pressure and sufficient fuel. Carry an extra tire and basic tools. Speed & Control: Maintain a low speed and use engine braking on descents. Tata Punch's ground clearance (187 mm) should handle small obstacles, but be cautious on large rocks. Weather: Weather can change quickly in Spiti. Carry warm clothes and keep an eye on road closures. Fuel: Refuel in Tabo or Kaza, as fuel stations are limited. Must-Carry Items Spare tire and puncture repair kit. Portable air compressor. High-energy snacks and water. Maps (offline) or GPS navigation. First-aid kit and medicines. Power bank for charging devices. Best Time to Travel May to October: Roads are mostly open, with pleasant weather. Avoid winters (November to April) as heavy snowfall can block roads.
