Tanzanian influencer Jennifer Jovin, popularly known as Niffer, has been charged with treason alongside 239 others following post-election protests in Dar es Salaam. According to court reports, Niffer, 26, was accused of encouraging resistance against state authorities after posting a video dancing to a satirical song titled “Rais Samia Maandamano Ya Nywi Nywi Nywi”. Authorities claim the song mocked President Samia Suluhu Hassan and incited public unrest. Her lawyer argues that Niffer is being unfairly targeted for “encouraging people to protect themselves from tear gas” during demonstrations. Meanwhile, her mother, Mwanaisha Isaac, has pleaded with the president to forgive her daughter, describing Niffer as the family’s sole breadwinner. Therefore Kenya’s Gen Z is taking action! Young people are demanding the release of Niffer Jovin and others who were arrested in Tanzania during election-related unrest. Reports say Niffer was taken into custody after being accused of encouraging protests, helping people prepare with protective masks, and allegedly being involved in activities the authorities call treason. She is now facing serious charges, and the youth in Kenya are visiting the Tanzanian Embassy in Nairobi to demand justice, fairness, and transparency. This is a stand for human rights and for those wrongly detained.
